Quotable Quotations: Weaver on his Contract Extension
Much of the discussions regarding Jered Weaver’s new contract extension with the Angels has centered on the amount of money (some have speculated that figure being close to $30 Million) he left on the table by signing the extension now as opposed to waiting until he reached free agency after the 2012 season. However, according to Weaver the decision was more about remaining in Los Angeles, rather than the money involved. As Mike DiGiovanna of the LA Times shared, Weaver himself says it best:
It’s the way I was brought up. If $85 Million is not enough to take care of my family and other generations of my family, then you’re stupid. I play baseball for the love of the game, for the competitive part of it.
