A few links worth sharing on this Saturday morning …
- I know some aren’t necessarily a big fan of the writers at ESPN but whether you like Tim Kurkjian’s work or not, you’ve got to read his latest. Anyone who finds themselves to be a “stat junkie” will understand and appreciate where he’s coming from.
- Entering this season the top rated prospect in the Boston Red Sox system was 20-year-old outfielder Ryan Westmoreland. Most of us know at this point that he had to undergo brain surgery in early March and many questioned whether he’d ever play again. Westmoreland, naturally, never shied away from admitting his goal was to get back on the field as soon as possible. WEEI’s Alex Speier reports that not only has Westmoreland’s rehab progressed well but there’s a chance he might be able to participate in the Fall Instructional League. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for this kid.
- The signing deadline for this year’s draft class is midnight Monday. MLB Trade Rumors has a continuously updated list of all of the top picks status and contract information. I presume this one will see a lot of updates over the next 48 hours.
- Now that the sale of the Texas Rangers has finally been finalized it’s time to give new co-owner Chuck Greenberg some credit. His first official act as owner: lowering the cost of beer at the ballpark.
